Ronan Fahy (IViR) has been appointed to the Council of Europe’s new Committee of Experts on the Integrity of Online Information (MSI-INF). The main task of the MSI-INF Committee is to prepare guidance on countering the spread of online mis- and disinformation through fact-checking and platform design solutions in a human-rights compliant manner, and the Committee’s mandate will run until December 2023. The MSI-INF Committee is composed of 13 members, comprising seven member States’ representatives, designated by the Council of Europe’s Steering Committee on Media and Information Society, and six independent experts, appointed by the Secretary General of the Council of Europe, with recognised expertise in the fields of freedom of expression and information, online information environment and digital platform economy and design. Fahy has been appointed as an independent expert.
At the MSI-INF Committee’s first meeting on 15-16 March 2022, Fahy was designated as co-rapporteur for the Committee, along with Prof. Sophie Lecheler and Prof. Cristian Vaccari.
