The new Council of Europe HELP (Human Rights Education for Legal Professionals) course on Protection and Safety of Journalists is now available on the HELP online platform.
Dr. Tarlach McGonagle coordinated the international team of experts that developed the course. The course aims to contribute to human rights education and the implementation of the European Convention on Human Rights at the national level.
The course was developed jointly with the Council of Europe Information Society Department, under the action “Freedom of Expression and Freedom of the Media in South-East Europe (JUFREX 2)” implemented under the European Union and Council of Europe Joint Programme “Horizontal Facility for the Western Balkans and Turkey II”. Representatives of the Council of Europe Platform for the Protection of Journalism and Safety of Journalists and of the Office of the Council of Europe Commissioner for Human Rights, as well as a senior lawyer from the Registry of the European Court of Human Rights also contributed to the course development. Its main audience is legal professionals – judges, prosecutors and lawyers – across the Council of Europe’s 47 Member States. It will also be relevant for law students, journalists and law enforcement officials.
