Dr. Léon Dijkman
Léon's research focuses on the proportionality defence in European patent law, but he has published on all aspects of European intellectual property law. His other research interests include the intersection between intellectual property and human rights law, legal methodology, and lawmaking through courts.
He obtained his bachelor’s degrees in law (2010, with distinction) and literary studies (2012, cum laude), as well as his master’s degree in Legal Research (2012, cum laude), from Utrecht University in the Netherlands. In 2013, he obtained an LL.M. from the University of California, Berkeley School of Law and was admitted to the Amsterdam bar that year. He obtained his PhD thesis in 2023 at the European University Institute.
As of 1 November 2024, Léon is an assistant professor at the Institute for Information Law (IVIR) at the University of Amsterdam and a senior associate at HOYNG ROKH MONEGIER in Amsterdam.
